LUMS Kaargah

About

LUMS Kaargah is a state of the art building, designed and constructed next to the SSE building. This is an active working and research space to facilitate industry for innovations and R&D. The Kaargah premises includes: production facilities, equipment standardization facilities, non-destructive testing facilities, and a cricket lab. It is also a meeting and co-working space. In addition to the research facilities, Kaargah includes testing labs as well as a greenhouse that can be used for research in the field and domain of biology. The roof of LUMS Kaargah is a great space for airborne experience as well.  

Goals

The Kaargah is meant to serve as a field laboratory with the following goals:

  • Building industrial liaison through invitation-based setups for industrial testing and calibration. This includes a Water Lab to serve Pakistan’s industrial sector.
  • Invitations to the industry to install test rigs and R&D stations. These rigs could be full-scale replica of industrial units meant for student training or research contracted out to the SSE Faculty.
  • Providing an arena for experimental work where open spaces are required such as for mobility, field robotics, aerial vehicles, and airborne experiments (on the rooftop).
  • Workspace for design, and small-scale production.
    Making available an area where one-off isolation is required.
  • An animal house to be run by the Department of Life Sciences, inside a pre-assigned space.
  • A plant house to be managed by the Department of Life Sciences, in an exclusively demarcated space.
  • The cricket lab, to be run by Dr. Muhammad Awais of the Department of Computer Science.
